Cruises and ocean voyages
Unpack once, and wake up somewhere else five times. The easiest multi destination trip there is.
In Ruaan's words
Why I send people here
Cruising out of Durban is the best value holiday in this country and most people have never seriously looked at it. No international flights, no visas to organise for the islands, no packing and repacking, and the price includes the food and the room.
The festive sailings are the ones that go first. The twelve night Indian Ocean run over New Year, Durban to Mauritius, Reunion and Portuguese Island, sells out months ahead and the good cabins go first of all.
Cabin choice is where I earn my keep. Mid ship, mid deck, away from the lifts and not under the pool deck. It sounds like a small thing until you are twelve nights in.
What makes it
Three things that decide the trip
New Year at sea
The twelve night Indian Ocean sailing over the festive season. Book it in the first half of the year.
The right cabin
Mid ship and mid deck. Quieter, steadier, and usually the same price as a bad one.
Add a land stay
Two or three nights in Mauritius before or after the sailing turns a cruise into a proper holiday.

At sea

Which is the part people are nervous about and end up loving.

At sea
Portuguese Island

Tender ashore for the day. Bring nothing.

Portuguese Island
Mauritius and Reunion

Two very different islands, two days apart, and no repacking.

Mauritius and Reunion
Home the slow way

Back into Durban with everything already unpacked into a suitcase you never had to move.
